5 Things to Know Before the Grid Goes Down
Prepping for a grid collapse.
In December 2012, I had a dream that the US dollar had completely collapsed. I was riding a bike on a country dirt road because there was no fuel. I had also noticed in my dream that the farmers had their fields ready but were unable to plant seed because there was no fuel or supply chain. The last thing I noticed: all of the farmers were at the edge of their fields bartering anything they had, especially items that brought entertainment like toys and such.
Keep in mind, this was a dream, but I believe it was an answer to a prayer of where Yahweh was leading me in my life. As soon as I woke up from that dream, I heard a voice tell me to go to Daniel 10. This is the verse that jumped out to me:
Daniel 10:14 “…to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.” (1)
This dream was so monumental to me that it literally changed the trajectory of my life. I was in law school at that time and left that same semester. My focus had completely changed from that of an ambitious career woman to becoming a prepper. The months that followed, I would pray about what I should do with this revelation that Yahweh had given me, and it was followed by the impression that I needed to prepare. The understanding came to me shortly into my prepping journey that I was not preparing for a temporary event but a complete change in how we live life as a civilization. Basically, society as we know it will cease, and all will be thrust back into a time that is similar to the pre-Industrial Revolution. There will be no supply chain, no food, no supplies, no running to get that ingredient from the store for tonight’s dinner, no electricity, no running water, no heat, no gas, NOTHING…
Have you ever thought what life would be like if you had none of the modern conveniences that we have at our fingertips?
I am not talking about our smartphones or internet, more like, do you think you could ever get used to cold showers? Do you know how to cook over a fire? How will you fetch water? Where will you use the bathroom if your toilet no longer flushes?
Trust me, there is more to think about than this. Everything in your life has been made convenient. Yes, we can go down the rabbit hole that it was designed that way by the greedy elites, but there is really no time for conspiracies. We all need to ponder what life will be like soon, especially when everything we use to survive will no longer be available.
Now let’s address the elephant in the room. I know what you might be thinking.
“Am I lacking faith and only need to trust Jesus to survive? Or, is it just fearful to think this way, so it isn’t biblical to prepare?”
Trust me, I have had all of the accusations thrown my way over the past 13 years. However, let me assure you that preparation is biblical. Jesus indeed provides, but the Bible is clear that one must not be idle and always be prepared. Abraham had written a very in-depth article on why prepping is biblical. Please check it out here. Thus, I will not elaborate too much on the biblical mandate for preparation for hard times. However, I hope to share the questions that one must think through in the preparation process. These questions are universal regardless of where you live. Here are the five things you need to figure out before the power grid goes down:
How will you access water?
Where can you grow calories (a staple garden)?
How will you cook and preserve food?
Do you have a plan for accessing fuel for fire for warmth, cooking, and sanitation?
Lastly, how will you safely dispose of human waste?
When Abraham and I began our journey into building our homestead, we lived in an off-grid RV. We used a solar system for energy and plastic buckets from the hardware store for human waste. We were eventually blessed to have a nice generator that would pump water out of our deep well. But for the first year of dry camping, we would have to drive into town and fill 5-gallon bottles to have a fresh water supply on hand. We learned a lot from this experience. In order to survive, those are the 5 main questions one must ask themselves in a grid-down scenario. Please note that once our grid goes down, it will never come back up again. We will be thrust back into the dark ages.
Please take this short article as a wake-up call. There is no need to fear once you know that survival is possible when you can answer the questions above. There are many questions to ask yourself; however, these questions address the basics of human needs (water, calories, heat, and waste removal). Many preppers make preparation much more complicated than it needs to be. Remember that our ancestors survived without modern amenities for all of mankind until recently. This should be encouraging! Prepare the best you can now and trust Christ for the rest, for He is merciful and promises to never leave or forsake His people.
My hope for this blog is to get your hearts and minds ready for survival, and that you do not lose faith in the hardships that are coming in the near future. Please faithfully pray about what I am saying. Blessings to you and your family.
I have a survival library that I have organized from older publications that are free on Gutenberg.org or Archive.org. All paid subscribers have access to this library. I hope to add more books in the coming days and weeks as I discover more valuable resources to share with you. The library currently has books about raising sheep, processing wool, cookbooks (from the 1800s/early 1900s), and food preservation.

All to the glory of God Almighty.
The primary issue that comes to mind is those who have will lose it to those with weapons. Unless, perhaps, they are more remote, but that is just a time difference.
